Yearly check ups

Well, it is confirmed...my kids are growing like weeks! We went for their yearly check up today and I cannot get over how tall they have become in the last year. Ashton measured 5'10", and Faith was 5'1-1/2". I guess Ashton didn't have a physical last year, but in 2012 he was only 5'1/4", and last year Faith was 4'7-3/4". So that means that Ashton has grown 10 inches in two years, and Faith has grown 5 inches in the past year! They can stop...any time now!!!!

A lot of people have been asking me about the surgery I had, and what is going on. Well, for those of you who don't know me, I had gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago in December. I lost 120 pounds, since then I have had to have my gall bladder removed, and put back on 25 pounds, and I am not happy about that. So thus wanting to lose 10 more pounds. But, probably over the last 6 months or so I have been having horrible stomach pains, when I eat, when I don't eat, everything. A lot of the pain mimicked the pain I had with my gall bladder...but with no gall bladder that's kind of impossible. So on July 1 I ended up in the ER and they sent me for a CAT Scan and they noticed what they though was a small bowel obstruction. Being a gastric bypass patient, they wanted me to see the bariatric doctor, he did see something irregular, and wanted to go in laproscopically on an exploratory purpose, check out my pouch and see what was going on. Sees as if I have a childhood ailment, called Meckel's diverticulum. What it is your small intestine is a big long snake, however I had a piece two feet into my intestine that was like sprouted out. Like a dead end street. What was happening was food and waste was getting stopped there, causing inflammation, and the discomfort. So he whacked that piece off and now my small intestine is a steady stream, like it should be. Where I only had three small incisions on the outside, I have a 6 inch incision on my intestine from the piece that was removed...thus me being off of work for a full month.

So there you have it...since the surgery I feel 100% better, my stomach pains are gone. With him checking out my pouch, I know that it is still working, and hasn't increased in size at all. So when I start back to work, I will be starting my exercise regimen again, and hopefully those ten pounds will drop faster than fast!

Better late...

Better than than never. Trying to keep up with the blogging challenge and almost forgot to blog today! So glad that I remembered!

Today was pretty uneventful. Didn't have hockey games today, just hung out at home and didn't have to drive a million places. Has not been like this in a while.

Kind of feeling down because I only have a few days left off of work. I have thoroughly enjoyed being home with the kids and Shawn, but I miss the money. We definitely need the money! But once I get back to work I can get back to the gym!!! So unless I win the lottery beforehand, looks like I will be back to work on Monday.

Here's a recent picture of Faith that I wanted to share. She's growing so fast!

Hope everyone is having a blessed day!

Bariatric Update

After my surgery at the beginning of the month, the bariatric surgeon who operated on me wanted me to follow up with him to discuss my bariatric surgery and what not. Today was that appointment. He didn't have my blood work back from the tests that were ran, but all in all he is very pleased with my progress. He doesn't want me to lose much more weight, only 10 pounds is all he recommends. Did tell me that I have to get back on a exercise regimen, but unfortunately I cannot do that until I am released for work, which is Monday, August 4, so after that I will get myself back to the gym! When he performed the surgery at the beginning of the month, he did check out my pouch, and all looks good with that. He did recommend that I try a high protein diet to help me drop 10 pounds. I've been OK with my eating, not great, not terrible, but I don't really pay attention to what I eat, or when I eat, so I guess I need to start looking at proteins, and making them the first priority again. Have a wedding to get ready for, so I think I have plenty of time to lose 10 pounds before my sister's wedding in September. :)

We're off to another hockey game tonight...Ashton has a dek hockey game at 6 o'clock. The weather is much cooler than it was last night, I had to break out the blue jeans for this game! Feels more like October than July! Figures my last week off of work and the weather will be crappy, and next week it will be gorgeous, I am sure! Just my luck!

Cold and dreary

Wow, what a change in the weather today. Cold, dreary and wet! And guess where I am again. Dek hockey! I don't know if I would rather have it hot or cold here. Maybe a happy medium?

Well the game is about to start...so...

What a weekend

It's over! The weekend is finally over! Cannot believe I said that but this hockey tournament was grouling! Hot and humid. Today we hit some nasty storms but we made it home safe and sound. Unfortunately the boys didn't make it to the semi finals, but they played their hearts out and had a good time, and in the big picture that is all that matters. Now time to relax with just the four of us under the roof tonight, ahhhh!

Long, hot day!

So the boys, yes plural because I seem to have more than just my son living here anymore, had a Dek hockey tournament in Latrobe today. Took the two boys and the two girls and came home with four boys and the two girls. Although the boys didn't win today, they played hard and had a good time.

After the game we took a quick drive into St. Vincent College and saw a little bit of the Steelers Training Camp. Very crowded, but a once in a lifetime thing, and I am glad we were able to see what we saw.

Back again tomorrow, but thankfully not as early. I'm beat, I am off to bed.

Something old, something new

Well, here goes nothing. I have recently been reconnected with a lot of my blogging buddies, and it gave me the blogging itch, so let's see how this goes, and if I seriously continue doing this or not. Not sure what I will blog about, or how I will end up decorating this place, have tons of old graphics that I guess I will have to dust off and see how this thing goes. :)
